Abstract

This paper presents the analytical dynamic analysis of a new bearing which is produced by incorporating two pressure dams in the existing widely used three-lobe bearing. It can be manufactured by providing two pressure dams on the top two lobes and a relief track in the bottom lobe of the three-lobe bearing. The dynamic characteristics of this three-lobe bearing with pressure dams are found to be much superior to those of an ordinary three-lobe bearing. The effects of the dam parameters on the performance characteristics of the bearing have also been studied.
