Abstract

We perform a check of stability of the sphaleron against spherical as well as non-spherical fluctuations, considering the Higgs mass as a parameter which is varied over a wide range. We obtain the equations for the fluctuations in arbitrary K channels, working in the temporal gauge. Using the Jacobi criterion, the numerical analysis shows that there are no other instabilities besides the well known K=0 channel related to the existence of deformed sphalerons.
