Abstract

Many bulb tubular turbines were put into operation earlier. The construction of upper and lower cascade power stations leads to the decrease of generating head. Unit efficiency decline can not reach the design output. Large quantities of water were abandoned from the power station. Taking the expansion and efficiency improvement of water turbine generator unit in Bailongtan Hydropower Station as an example. The stability and efficiency improvement before and after expansion are compared and analyzed. The transformation not only solves the problem of high vibration of low waterhead and failure to reach the designed output, but also increases the flow and output of the unit, reduces abandoned water of the power station, improves the utilization rate of hydraulic resources, improves the stability of the unit and ensures the safe operation of the power plant. The result of unit transformation is good. It can be used as a reference for the transformation of similar tubular units.
