Abstract

Cable-stayed bridges with two pylons are analyzed. The arrangement of the cables, the height of the pylons and the ratio of the moments of inertia of the pylon to the deck are variables. A uniformly distributed load and a moving concentrated load are considered. The location and the magnitude of the minimum elastic critical loads are computed for various values of the above parameters and load combinations. Meanwhile the influence of the supports fixation on the critical loads is studied. The results are presented in graphical form useful to the designers.
