Abstract

The paper discusses the methods used to gain a detailed understanding of the reasons for the intermittent oscillations observed on the steam drum levels of the UKAEA Prototype Fast Reactor (PFR). The paper goes on to describe how that knowledge was used to improve the control system design so as to eliminate the limit cycling modes and to give good control system performance over the full range of power operation.
