Abstract

Recent investigations have shown that power system is a highly nonlinear system, bifurcations occur and can exhibit chaotic behaviours leading to a voltage collapse which severely threaten the secure and stable operation of the power system. To control the undesirable chaos in power system, a novel adaptive controller is proposed based on LaSalle invariable principle, which can asymptotically stabilise an unstable power system to equilibrium points. In comparison with previous methods, this control scheme does not require analytical knowledge of the power system’s dynamics, and it operates without any explicit knowledge of the desired steady-state position. Numerical simulations are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed controller. The obtained results of this paper may help to maintain the power system’s security operation.
