Abstract

St Teresa of Avila’s project, founding contemplative communities of women in Castile and Andalusia, was unequivocally apostolic in its intention. The structure of her Way of Perfection, and the starting point of the Foundations prove this. The article argues that st Teresa deliberately chose the contemplative lifestyle, as the way to reach deeper into humanity’s wounds and achieve a more radical healing.
