Abstract

For subsynchronous resonance (SSR) phenomenon in doubly fed induction generator (DFIG)-based wind farm and series compensated transmission network, this paper firstly studies SSR characteristics in all DFIG operation areas, including maximum-power-point-tracking (MPPT), constant rotation speed area and limiting output power area, to obtain SSR-stable area with the finding that SSR characteristics varies in different operation areas. With the approach of eigenvalue analysis in all operation areas, this paper further investigates the impact of dominant factors on the range of SSR-stable area. In addition, the impact of the number of DFIGs on the stability of wind farm is studied in particular. In the end suggestions are put forward from both designing and operating aspects for wind farms to reduce the risk of SSR.
