Abstract

ABSTRACT Dynamic performances of rocking-isolated systems containing identical SDOF superstructures on foundations with three different embedment depths are investigated. Accordingly, the abovementioned systems are subjected to harmonic excitation sequences compromising โ€œlight motionโ€-โ€œmoderate motionโ€ and vice versa using shake table. Based on the results, under moderate motion, the acceleration response of SDOF decreases seriously relative to the input motion. In addition, the presence of pre-event causes increase in base shear during main event for a unique specimen in comparison to another sequence. Moreover, the conventional relationship seems not to be adequate to estimate the base shear for superstructures with embedded rocking foundations.
