Abstract

A novel approach to perform a single sideband (SSB) modulation signal with optimum carrier to sideband ratio (OCSR) of 0 dB based on polarization modulated optical signal injected into DFB laser is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. When the polarization modulated optical signal is injected into DFB laser, due to the frequency selective gain feature of optical injected DFB laser, one sideband is amplified while the optical carrier and the other sideband are not changed. Therefore, the SSB signal is obtained. Adjusting polarization control (PC) to change the OCSR and obtain the SSB modulation with OCSR 0 dB and the amplitude difference of 44.87 dB.
