Abstract

An alkaline earth metal iodate crystal, SrI3O9H, has been successfully grown by a mild aqua-solution method for the first time. It contains two different anionic units, isolated [IO3] units and [I2O6H] units. The alkali and/or alkaline earth metal hydrogenous iodates (Ⅴ) are summarized. Thermal behavior, infrared spectrum, Raman spectrum, and UV–Vis–NIR diffuse reflectance spectrum are characterized. The band gap, density of states, and birefringence of SrI3O9H are calculated as well.
