Abstract

In this study, the aim is to discuss what can be the role and training of a psychological counselor and higher education under the light of previous research for sustainable education. When “Sustainability” is mentioned, it is perceived as the reduct ion of the biophysical pressure on the eco system to the least. Nowadays the concept of sustainability has grown way beyond environment and became involved with social and economic conditions. On the basis of the concept of sustainability lies the need of gathering the economic, ecologic, individual and politic factors under one decisive institution. In this context it is not possible for Turkey to stay away from the developments which were seen in the world in the area of higher education. In 21st century the alterations, in the world and in Turkey have raised the need of psychological counseling. Especially globalization, the young population that Turkey has and parallel to that the increase of education sector, fluctuations in economy, the change in Turkish family which is affected from that, the increase of cultural variation caused scientific and technologic lifestyle changes. Factors such as; the effects of social and psychological effects on individuals and groups and their effort in adaptation, have raised the need of Psychological Counseling Guidance Services. Because of this deficiency, Psychological Counseling and Guidance Services have to offer techniques and methods for special conditions and they have to be served to more people.
