Abstract

Wireless mesh networks(WMNs) have excellent communication capabilities and quality of easy deployment which increases popularity of WMNs. WMNs have an essential routing protocol which facilitates healing of link between Mesh Routers and the Mobile Nodes. Multiple interfaces of Mesh Routers is used for healing the path between the Mesh Routers and the Mobile Node in Mesh Network. Reactive protocols of wireless networks have weakness of frequent route breakage during data transmission. On link failure, healing process exploits by attempting some fixed number of consecutive transmission and finally this link breakage considered to be Route Breakage. These failures may occur due a number of reasons including channel interference, dynamic obstacles, collisions on the channel or a burst of channel errors, leading to false link Frequent link failures degrades performance of network Our proposed “Source Route-AODV” scheme uses the concept of link quality, which reduces route breakages in reactive routing protocol by link quality and average of airtime of the links for accurate decision on link breakage and its mitigation. Fault tolerance routing protocol is providing local rerouting or multipath routing as a solution to wireless link failure. But in WMNs dynamic waiting time of MAC retry limit can be adjusted to avoid link breakage. SR-AODV offers an improvement of up to 11% in performance metrics, throughput and packet delivery ratio. Also there is little improvement in routing overhead and end to end delay.
