Abstract

This paper aim at design of a solar powered water pumping system employing a switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive and analysis of the performance in MATLAB simulink. The SRM’s possess a number of advantages compared to other ac and dc motor drives, such as high power density, wide speed range, low inertia and quick response. The system utilizes a modified boost converter as an intermediate DC-DC converter, which provides voltage gain double that of conventional boost converter, with reduced voltage stress. Incremental conductance algorithm is used for tracking maximum power from PV panel. The proposed system is designed, modeled and simulated for 4 kW water pumping system in MATLAB simulink with variable insolation levels. The results validate the suitability of the system for SPV fed water pumping system.
