Abstract
We show that spurious wave scattering occurs on a nonuniform grid where hyperbolic equations are approximated with finite differences when the function that describes grid size versus position has a discontinuous first derivative. The expression of the corresponding reflection ratio is derived, and is verified with experimental data.
