Abstract

Hyperphosphatemia is an important independent risk factor for both cardiovascular calcification and cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in dialysis patients.1-3 Serum phosphate levels are monitored routinely in patients on maintenance dialysis therapy, with high levels usually ascribed to nonadherence to diet or oral phosphate binders.
