Abstract

The springback of two-ply sheet metal laminates after being subjected to draw-bending was investigated. Draw-bending experiments for two-ply laminates consisting of pure aluminum (JIS A1100) and ferritic stainless steel (JIS SUS430) were performed. The residual curvatures after springback of the laminates were measured. Numerical analysis of the draw-bending process was also carried out, and the predicted residual curvatures were compared with the corresponding experimental results. Both the experimental and analytical results show that springback of sheet metal laminates is strongly affected by the strength difference between the component layers, the relative position of the strong/weak layers, and the thickness ratio of each layer, as well as the stretching force acting on the laminates.
