Abstract

Spotlight Darryl Holmes (bio) He stares in the mirror like an old gray craneliving in reflection. His eyes the blue mist of a torch. His teeth the color of fresh wood. On better days he blows in the dark, his horn held high, his feathers light and flowing. The sweet taste of a reed in his mouth. Most days he is rolled up,a music poster that never made the wall,a cartonof Chinese take-out growing cold. Some nights he stands on his grandfather's shoeboxfilled with dry polish and spotted rags.He reaches for the switch on the wall.He waits for the yellow light to enter him.
