Sposoby opisaniya odezhdy v stat'e N.Ya. Bichurina «Odѣyanіe kitajcev"»

Abstract

In the article the author considers purely linguistic methods and techniques of describing Chinese clothing items, which are used by N.Ya. Bichurin (Father Iakinf) in order to ethnographically accurately depict objects of the Chinese material culture during the Qing Dynasty. These methods are transcription of names of clothing items in Cyrillic, search for Russian equivalents, detailed description of differential features, search for a known analogue in Russian. Particular attention is paid to the evaluation of Russian equivalents chosen by Bichurin when interpreting exotic Chinese clothing items.
