Abstract

2082 To determine whether leisure time sports participation was associated with wellbeing, health, medical consumption and sick leave in a working population, baseline data of 1,396 male and female workers were analyzed. Standardized questionnaires were used to collect data regarding physical and mental health, wellbeing, medical consumption, and leisure time sports participation. Sick leave data were registered by the companies. Workers were divided into 3 categories: 'never participated in sports' (NPS), 'history of sports participation' (HSP) or 'current participation in sports' (CPS). Logistic regression was used to determine the relation between sports participation and each dependent variable; adjustments were made for age, gender, smoking, and type of work. Significant odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals are shown in the table:TableIt is concluded that workers participating in sports during leisure time have a higher wellbeing and less sick leave compared to those workers not involved in sports during leisure time.
