Abstract
In recent years sport has captured the imagination of the academic historian as a legitimate and worthwhile field of social enquiry. This bibliography has been compiled to meet the increasing demand for information on publications from 1800 to the end of 1987. A comprehensive classified listing of over 6500 individual items, including monographs, theses, periodical articles and conference papers, with author index, this bibliography will provide a useful reference tool for those interested in the history and development of sport in Britain. There are three main sections - works on particular sports, biographies of individuals and studies of sports in specific spaces. An index to publications on the history of sport in Britain in the English language, it should also provide a useful reference source to librarians, historians, sociologists, physical educationalists, journalists and bibliophiles.
