Abstract

SPOROTRICHOSIS has been reported infrequently from Western Pennsylvania.<sup>1</sup>While the paucity of reports may not reflect the true occurrence of the disease in this area, it is unlikely that there have been any large outbreaks such as have occurred recently in Vermont and Florida.<sup>2,3</sup>During the past ten years, two cases of cutaneous sporotrichosis have been seen at the Western Pennsylvania Hospital. These cases are being reported because they occurred in nonhorticultural workers, and because one case represents an unusual complication of cutaneous sporotrichosis. <h3>Report of Cases</h3><h3>Case 1.—</h3> This 63-year-old veterinarian, who resided and practiced in a Pittsburgh suburb, was first seen by his physician on July 12, 1957, with an ulcer on his right forearm and lymphangitis of his right upper arm occurring after a scratch from an animal under his care.
