Abstract

Superficial temporal artery (STA) aneurysms, whether posttraumatic or spontaneous, are a rare occurrence. Herein, we present and discuss a rare case of spontaneous STA aneurysm in a child. We found <220 cases of STA aneurysms in the literature. Most of these are posttraumatic pseudoaneurysms with some characteristic diagnostic features but our case report is unique in that there was spontaneous appearance of swelling with no history of trauma. Histopathologic analysis revealed features of temporal arteritis.
