Abstract

Spontaneous rupture of the uterine artery is a rare event. Our Medline search revealed only 4 cases all of which occurred during pregnancy or puerperium. These haemorrhagic events present as acute abdomen with haemodynamic instability. In this report we describe a case of a non-pregnant woman with spontaneous rupture of the uterine artery. The aetiology of the condition is largely speculative. (excerpt)
