Abstract

Spontaneous rupture of the spleen is a relatively rare clinical entity occurring in the normal organ as well as that affected by diseases such as infectious mononucleosis, malaria, typhoid, splenic cyst and leukamia. Spontaneous rupture of the spleen secondary to metastatic carcinoma is exceedingly rare, only six cases having been reported 1 . The primary sites in these patients were the urinary bladder, stomach, skin (malignant melanoma), liver and lungs. The present case report is believed to be only the second of spontaneous rupture of the spleen following metastatic lung cancer
