Abstract

When pulse label is supplied to replicating bacteriophage T7 DNA in phage-infected Escherichia coli, up to 42% of the label is found in spontaneously-renaturable structures. Parental phage DNA or admixed mature phage DNA is not spontaneously renaturable. From this we conclude that newly replicated polynucleotide chains are chemically joined to chains of complementary sequence.
