Abstract

Most fractures of the lower jaw have a traumatic etiology; spontaneous, or pathologic, fractures are far more rare. Fractures of this latter type may be associated with large cysts of the jaws, osteomyelitis, benign or malignant tumors, osteoradionecrosis, etc.case of spontaneous fracture of the lower jaw due to a cyst is reported. Since there was perforation to the oral cavity, the cyst was removed via the oral approach. The edentulous posterior fragment was fixed by means of an acrylic saddle, wired to the persisting mandibular teeth.
