Abstract

The aim of this project is to study spontaneous formation of Pb/Ag super lattices during potentiostatic electrodeposition process of Ag using Pb underpotentially deposited (UPD) monolayer serving as surfactant. The techniques used to study this process are cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry. In this study we use a 3-electrode electrochemical cell and BAS potentiostat CV 27. The working electrode is a single crystal Au(111) which is held in a hanging meniscus configuration. Reference and counter electrodes are Ag or Pb wires and Pt wire respectively. Our results suggest that current spikes recorded during potentiostatic deposition of Ag on Au(111) correspond to instant formation of Pb monolayer on top of a new formed Ag nucleus.
