Abstract

A 26-YEAR-OLD white man was transferred to the United States Air Force Hospital, APO 1054, on Nov. 27, 1951, from a field hospital in Korea. He had been wounded on I\;ov. 24 by artillery shell fragments, suffering a penetrating wound of the right side of the face and two flesh wounds in the right buttock. In addition to the wounds, the transfer diagnosis included a compound, comminuted fracture of the right maxilla. Emergency treatment had provided dAbridement, suturing, and dressing of the wounds and reduction of the fracture by means of maxillary and mandibular arch bars and intermaxillary elastic traction.
