Abstract

Experiments 1 and 2 investigated strain differences between hooded and albino rats in shock-induced and spontaneous electrode burying. It was found that hooded rats had a greater tendency to bury spontaneously than albinos but there was little difference in shock-induced burying. Experiment 3 assessed the effect of prior habituation to the test apparatus on both shock-induced and spontaneous burying in albino rats. The results indicate that habituation reliably reduced the level of spontaneous but not shock-induced burying.
