Abstract

The survey on the parasitoids of armyworm, Spocloptera litura was carried out from May, 1974 through April of 1975. The collecting area were covered Taipei, Hsinchu, Tai-chung, Chiayi and Kaohsiung. The parasitoids of S. litura reported in this paper included one species of egg parasitoid, Trichogramma dendrolimi and 9 species of larval parasitoids e. g. Snellenius manilae, Micro plitis pallidipes, M. tubercu lifer, Apanteles ruficrus, A. plutellae, Meteorus sp., Charops bicolor, Cam poletis chlorideae and Euplectrus sp. Among them, 7 species are new records of parasitoids of S. litura and 4 species are new to Taiwan. Snellenius manilae is the most common parasitoid to be found on S. litura on this island. The percentage of parasitism of the parasitoid ranged from 5.3% to 43.9% through year. It usually occurred abundantly in October and November. Five species of hyperparasites of S. manilae have been identified as Eupteromalus parnarae Gahan (Pteromalidae), Stictopisthus sp. A. Stictopisthus sp. B, Diatora prodeniae Ash. (Ichneumonidae), and one unidentified species of Ceraphronjdae. All the species are new record to Taiwan. A key to species of the parasitoids, their morphological descriptions and some biological notes are presented.
