Abstract

The sphere in the centre of the cover picture is an SEM (scanning electron microscopy) image of one of the titanium dioxide spheres studied by Khromova et al. The incoming broadband terahertz (THz) pulse (white pulse and white beam) excites two non-degenerate orthogonal magnetic dipole modes in the sphere (due to material anisotropy). These modes are represented as ripples of the excited propagating fields (blue and red) and as corresponding signature pulses (red and blue) as detected in the authors' experiment using time-domain spectroscopy. The blue and red colours as well as the pulse shapes represent the difference in the resonance frequency of the two excited modes.
