Abstract

A new isoparametric element suitable for the analysis of axisymmetric free vibrations of shells of revolution is developed in this paper. This element, which is based on classical thin shell theory, employs a set of B-spline shape functions for the interpolation of the geometry as well as the displacements. It inherits the merits of both the finite element method and spline interpolation. The efficiency and accuracy of the proposed element are illustrated by examples in the paper.
