Abstract

Spline collocation methods are proposed for the spatial discretization of a class of hyperbolic partial integro-differential equations arising in the theory of linear viscoelasticity. For problems in two space variables, error estimates are derived for the continuous-time orthogonal spline collocation method and three discrete-time orthogonal spline collocation methods. The continuous-time modified cubic spline collocation method for problems in one space variable is also analyzed.
