Abstract

The role of percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) in the management of renovascular hypertension is controversial when the cause is known to be atherosclerotic disease. The authors report a life-threatening complication of PTA, wherein renal artery rupture was successfully managed by emergency splenorenal bypass with preservation of the kidney function. Close cooperation between radiologists and the surgical team is a prerequisite for such interventional technique.
