Abstract

Traumatic rupture of the spleen is frequently associated with blunt abdominal trauma to the left upper quadrant and patients present with clinical signs of intra-abdominal hemorrhage and/or shock. As the clinical features may mimic the signs and symptoms of abruptio placentae ectopic or extra-abdominal pregnancy and ruptured uterus traumatic rupture of the spleen is associated with high maternal and neonatal mortality which may be due to delayed presentation and diagnosis. A case of splenic rupture in pregnancy associated with domestic violence is presented. A 26-year-old unmarried primigravida presented with severe generalized abdominal pain of acute onset. She offered no further history and there were no exacerbating factors. (excerpt)
