Abstract

A 62-year-old man underwent EGD and EUS liver biopsy (EUS-LB) to rule out varices and abnormal Fibroscan (Echosens, Waltham, Mass, USA) results. The procedure was performed by an experienced endosonographer with EUS-LB experience. The left hepatic lobe was targeted from the proximal part of the stomach (A) and the right lobe from the duodenal bulb (B); a 19-gauge core needle was used. Visible cores of tissue were obtained by each biopsy. The patient’s postprocedure recovery was uneventful, and he was discharged after 1 hour. There were no adverse events 1 day and 30 days later. Histologic examination of biopsy specimens from the right lobe showed liver cores up to 1.6 cm long; the transgastric biopsy yielded cores of splenic tissue up to 1.5 cm (C, D).
