Abstract
Though the organizational communication subfield has historically maintained a largely secular focus, the concept of spirituality (in both a religious and nonreligious sense) has gradually become a substantial topic of interest. Scholars have advocated wide‐ranging positions on the integration of spirituality in organizing. Some have touted its benefits for organizations and their members while others have warned of its susceptibility to colonization and commoditization. This entry summarizes the history of this topic's treatment in the scholarly literature, various conceptualizations of spirituality as it relates to organizational communication, and spirituality's intersection with other key topics and issues in the field.
