Abstract

This study focused on the problem-solving or coping aspect of religiousness as well as spiritual support, spiritual openness, and religious faith practice as the key predictors of long-term sobriety in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Purpose in life and AA involvement were also included as important indicators for sustained abstinence from drinking. The 78 participants were members of AA clubs located in Maryland, New York, Kansas, Missouri, South Carolina, and California. Results confirmed the findings of previous studies that indicated AA involvement to be the single most, important predictor of abstinence and sobriety in AA.
