Abstract

PIRAMYCIN, a new antibiotic,l01, has an antibacterial activity similar to erythromycin. Hamdy et al.,3'4 Holper et al.,5 and Barnes et al.1 have reported on the use of erythromycin in the treatment of turkey sinusitis. The action of Spiramycin against experimental Mycoplasma infection has been reported.6 Pleuropneumonia-like organisms (PPLO) have been found to be the cause of turkey sinusitis, both experimentally2'3'5'7'8 and in naturally infected birds.2'3'7 Infectious sinusitis is a serious problem in many turkey flocks, and new and better treatments are constantly being sought. Since Spiramycin had been reported effective in controlling PPLO infections,6 its use was investigated for treating infectious sinusitis in experimental and field cases.
