Abstract

The spiral resonator microstrip patch antenna has been designed using metamaterial on patch and ground to enhance bandwidth. There is a spiral ring resonator etched on the patch plane and four spiral ring resonators at four corners of square placed on the ground plane. The frequency of 2.4 GHz is used to operate the proposed antenna. It helps in reduction of mutual coupling as it is dependent on inter-element separation which has unwanted effects on antenna. The antenna has been designed with FR-4 lossy substrate and copper patch. It has been simulated on CST studio. Owing to their special features, the metamaterial has greater attention for antenna designing. Simulation results show the improvement of mutual coupling loss and return loss by adding spiral resonator structure to the antenna substrate. For RF-ID and WLAN applications, this antenna can be efficiently employed.
