Abstract

Our novel ultrasound method combines B-flow, spatiotemporal image correlation (STIC) and M-Mode to visualize spiral arteries (SA) in the placental bed of ongoing pregnancy. Evaluating SA intraluminal diameter in systole (S) and diastole (D) of the maternal cardiac cycle allowed prospective longitudinal testing of the hypothesis that SA at the umbilical cord insertion (CI) function better than SA in other placental zones.
