Abstract

Spiniferomonas genuiformis Wujek and Bland, recently described as a new species from Florida, has been found in an Ontario freshwater pond. Its scale structure generally agrees well with that known for the type material, but considerable variation in the structure of the spine scales is described for the Ontario specimens. It is suggested that S. genuiformis may not be a valid species but a growth form of S. alata, since scales typical of those known for both "species" were found on individual cells.
