Abstract

This is the sixth volume in a series on child neurology sponsored by the International Child Neurology Association, Louvain, Belgium, and written by Ignacio Pascual-Castroviejo, with chapters on the "Pathology of Spinal Cord Tumors," by Escalona-Zapata; "Imaging of Pediatric Spinal Tumors," by Ashley, Nelson, and Segall; the "Surgical Treatment of Intramedullary Spinal Cord Tumors of Childhood," by Fred J. Epstein; and the "Nonsurgical Management of Spinal Tumors," by Curran and D'Angio. The author sets out to provide "complete and clear information about the diagnosis and treatment of spinal tumors in young people," and he has succeeded admirably. After a review of the epidemiology of spinal cord tumors, the pathologic appearance is described in some detail. The chapter on imaging of pediatric spinal tumors is of high quality and includes a helpful review of the magnetic resonance appearances of spinal cord tumors in children. An excellent summary on the surgical treatment
