Abstract

The clinical, radiological, and autopsy findings in two cases of systemic sarcoidosis with major involvement of the spinal cord are presented. This is a rare condition, with only twenty six histopathologically confirmed cases found in a review of previous reports. Sarcoidosis may involve any portion of the spinal cord or meninges, and spinal cord involvement may rarely be the initial manifestation of the systemic disease. The most common myelographic findings are an intramedullary mass and a partial or complete block. Prompt clinical and radiologic diagnosis is needed due to the importance of early initiation of appropriate therapy.
