Abstract

Spin wave spectra of exchange-coupled epitaxial double-layers of bcc ferromagnetic material with the (100) and (110) surfaces are analysed theoretically within the classical continuum model. The parallel and antiparallel alignment of the film magnetizations are considered. In the parallel configuration the wave spectrum is reciprocal whereas the wave propagation in the antiparallel geometry is found to be strongly non-reciprocal. The special cases of a magnetic field applied along the easy and hard directions are discussed in detail. Theoretical results are compared with available experimental data obtained by Brillouin light scattering in Fe/Au/Fe and Fe/Cr/Fe structures. From this comparison the interlayer thickness dependence of the interlayer exchange constant is determined.
