Abstract
The spin orientation of photoelectrons and its angular distribution are studied by applying the Jacob-Wick helicity formalism. Applications are presented for photoelectrons ejected from rare-gas atoms, Ar and Xe, in their autoionization spectra. The spin polarizations and their angular distributions show pronounced variations with photon energy across autoionization resonances.
