Abstract

The spin–orbit coupling effects are investigated for the Douglas–Kroll and infinite-order two-component relativistic hamiltonians. The infinite-order theory reproduce all important features of the four-component Dirac theory, including the supersymmetric pattern of energy level. The Douglas–Kroll method can not give the right values of the spin orbit splitting.
