Abstract
It is shown by exact diagonalization that the one-dimensional Kondo lattice has a spin liquid ground state at half filling for all nonzero Kondo couplings. The antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic coupling regions are characterized by the universality classes of the coherent Kondo singlet and the Haldane gap state respectively.
