Abstract

The significance of spin effects upon the kinetics of radical species in radiation-induced spurs has been studied using a prototypical single species system and several limiting models for spin effects. If the initial spin correlation is retained and the spurs remain singlet overall, the extent of reaction depends upon the spin model used. Spurs with one through six pairs of radicals are examined: the discrepancies between the predictions of the different models decrease with the number of pairs, but the effect of spin correlation remains significant.
